About the Local Medical Community
Vanderhoof boasts a well respected, large and tight-knit medical community. With doctors, nurses and specialty care professionals who have come here from around the world, we have a diverse range of skills and services available to the community.
Located across the street from the Omineca Medical Clinic, St. John Hospital in Vanderhoof is the medical centre for residents of Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, and Fort Fraser, and has the only Emergency Room facility in the area. Among other specialties, the hospital is equipped for radiology, obstetrics, cancer treatment, and minor and some major surgical procedures.
Vanderhoof has a large population of seniors and is home to several care facilities that range from independent living to 24hr care. The doctors in Vanderhoof work closely with care staff in all of these facilities.
Situated along the banks of the Nechako River, Vanderhoof is a scenic, culturally rich community in the heart of the province. The community has a 'small town' feel, yet has much to offer its nearly 5000 residents. From the fine arts, to movies and media, to an abundance of recreational activities all year round, Vanderhoof is a safe and friendly place to raise a family and make a career.
